Sowing Method:Double-sow in plugs

Germination:Stage I: 10-12 days at 20-22 ¡ãC 68-72 ¡ãF, Stages II-IV: 11-28 days at 18-20 ¡ãC 64-68 ¡ãF. Needs dark to germinate. Fungigate the substrate to prevent the occurrence of damping off. Provide a thin Vermiculite cover and maintain a uniform moisture level. From Stage II on reduce moisture level and place seeds under light.

Growing On:4-6 weeks after sowing, transplant into 9-11 cm 4'' pots using 1-2 plants per pot.

Media:Use a friable, coarse-fibered substrate with a pH of 5.5-6.5.

Photoperiod / Light:Daylength neutral plant.

Temperature:12-18 ¡ãC 54-64 ¡ãF or grow outdoors. Vernalization is not required for the plants to initiate fl owers. However, if vernalized, plants produce a higher number of flowering stems in the second year. Plants may be overwintered in house at 3-5 ¡ãC 37-41 ¡ãF or in the field. Force at 12-15 ¡ãC 54-59 ¡ãF.

Fertilization:Requires medium to high nutrient levels.

Cultural Hints:Provide suffi cient drainage in the field. Geum will not tolerate waterlogged conditions. Excessive wetness will encourage stem and root rot to occur. Treat the plants with a fungicide prior to overwintering to avoid the occurrence of botrytis. Warering: Allow the root ball to dry off between irrigations.
